Do you often end up with items in the wrong waste recovery bins? Tired of your bins being contaminated by improperly sorted materials? Below are some basics for better waste management in your offices.
Let’s start with the recycling bin. What goes in the recycling bin includes paper and cardboard, plastic, and metal. This covers paper (except waxed paper), shredded paper (grouped in a bag for better recyclability), paper towels, mail (except padded envelopes), cardboard rolls, and cardboard boxes. For plastic, it means containers, bottles, and packaging labeled with numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7, lids and caps, plastic bags (gathered in one bag for better recyclability), and plastic wrap like “Saran Wrap.” Finally, metals, tin cans, aluminum foil and plates, and metal caps and lids are accepted.
To summarize, quoting the song « Mets du respect dans ton bac » by Alaclair Ensemble, in partnership with Ville de Laval: “metal, glass, plastic, cardboard, paper, that’s it!”
For the compost bin, deposit leftover lunch scraps. Yes, it’s that simple!
Finally, what you toss into the trash bin (black bin) is ultimate waste. Examples include plastic number 6 and items that do not meet the criteria mentioned above (chewing gum, coffee capsules if you aren’t in a recycling program).
Still not sure where to put your item? Feel free to consult two very handy tools: the Gestrio app (specific to the Arthabaska RCM) or Ça va où? by Recyc-Québec (for the province of Quebec).
